We report here a comparison of the effects of the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1β and the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-4 on measures of blood albumin in rats with different types of behavioral activity in the open field. In the initial state, the total serum albumin concentration in active animals was significantly lower than that in passive individuals. However, the ratio of the effective albumin concentration to the total albumin concentration, which reflects its binding capacity, was greater in passive rats. Administration of interleukins led to decreases in the total and effective albumin concentrations in the blood of passive and especially active rats.
