In routine clinical practice BD I with psychotic episodes is often misdiagnosed as SCH or SAD. In our study 40.3% of agitated inpatients had wrong diagnosis of SCH or SAD for a mean period of 14 years, and the majority of them received inappropriate treatment with traditional antipsychotics. Russian version of MINI and BI can be used as reliable instruments for differentiating between BD I and SCH/SAD.
