Brain stimulation techniques are considered for augmentation strategies in the treatment of depression but there are limited data concerning its application in schizophrenia. Meanwhile depression is a common symptom in schizophrenia with life-time prevalence up to 60% which has an association with aggravated course of illness, decreased quality of life and increased mortality rates. Depression and negative symptoms are much more resistant to pharmacotherapy than manifestations of psychosis. For this reason, there is a growing interest in nonpharmacological methods of treatment such as rTMS for the management of depression in schizophrenia.
