During a major depressive episode (MDE) psychomotor symptoms may dominate the clinical picture, with possible psychomotor retardation, consisting of physical, cognitive and verbal slowing, or psychomotor agitation, when activa- tion and restlessness are the main characteristic [1]. Such motor patterns could be related to different features, with implication for clinical practice.
Aim: The present pooled post-hoc analysis investigates the clinical meaning of psychomotor symptoms in MDE, maximizing the statistical power and the generalizability of the results. Our working hypothesis was that different psychomotor patterns could be associated with specific clinical characteristics that belong to the realm of bipolar spectrum.
