Criteria for major depression (MD) allow diagnosing heterogeneous populations, bearing at least 227 different combinations of symptoms. Moreover, the cross-sectional diagnosis of MD is supposed to include both unipolar (UD) and bipolar depression (BD). The course of MD in terms of functional outcome may be influenced by different socio-demographic, and clinical factors, both in UD and BD. The BRIDGE-II-Mix was a multicentre, international, non-interventional, cross-sectional study aimed at the clinical characterization of mixed features in a large population of acute UD and BD patients, as well as patients at first depressive episode (FDE).
